Metacognition

Metacognition is the act of being aware of one's thoughts and thought process. This can be used in teaching through modeling, for example if a teacher were modeling how to write a thesis, they would say their thoughts aloud, making their thought process visible to the students. This is also a tool "good" readers use unknowingly to connect ideas and prior knowledge.
